TWC offers assistance with food stamp applications
Together We Cope staff is available to assist south suburban residents applying for LINK cards (food stamp program), and to answer questions about the SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) application process. The assistance is offered two days per month, on the first Thursday and the third Tuesday. The next available date is August 21. Assistance is offered by appointment only and space is limited. Reservations for the one-on-one sessions can be made by contacting Vanya Bankhead at 708-633-5040. Residents must bring the following documents with them: identification such as driver’s license or birth certificate; Social Security cards for each family member applying; pay stubs for the past 30 days, if applicable; income letter showing money received from Social Security, SSI, pension, VA, etc.; proof of medical expenses for the last 30 days, if applicable; IDHS medical card, if applicable. IDHS will not process incomplete applications for a LINK card. “We can assist residents with the online application process,” Bankhead said, “and once that is completed, the applicant will be contacted within 25 days by the Illinois Department of Human Services for a further interview.” “We encourage residents who qualify for the program to use a LINK card to boost their grocery budgets,” Bankhead said.
