Kathryn Straniero honored with ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ award
Kathryn Straniero, executive director of Together We Cope in Tinley Park, was honored with a Community Leadership award from the Order Sons of Italy in America, Grand Lodge of Illinois and Wisconsin, during the recent Leonardo da Vinci Award Gala in Rosemont. Straniero was recognized for her work with families in crisis from the 22 south suburban communities served by Together We Cope, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency. She was among several honored guests who were recognized for their contributions to community, education, government, law, medicine, business and the arts. Sons of Italy is the oldest and largest national organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the U.S. Born Kathryn Spirito in Chicago, Kathryn grew up on the city’s West Side and in Oak Lawn. She has a long career in public service, including as a current elected trustee of Bremen Township where she focuses on supporting youth and senior citizens. She has served on Arbor Park School District 145 Board of Education, where she was an advocate of early childhood education. Throughout the years she has been associated with local Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, embracing their missions of service to mankind. In her role at Together We Cope since 1994, Straniero has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of families through the strong programs she has developed focusing on women and children. The agency’s food pantry assists 1,000 families per month, and last year 34,000 individuals received various forms of assistance. |
